FAQ

1. What water temperature should I use? We recommend water around 70 to 80°C (158 to 176°F). Boiling water can scorch the matcha and bring out bitterness, while slightly cooler water preserves its natural sweetness and umami. Simply let boiled water sit for a minute or two before pouring, then whisk with the chasen until frothy.

2. How do I use each tool? Scoop your matcha with the chashaku, sift it through the chakoshi to remove clumps, add hot water, and whisk briskly with the chasen in a "W" motion until a fine froth forms. The wide chawan gives you plenty of room to whisk comfortably, and the chakin is used to wipe the bow and preparation areal clean.

3. How should I care for the tools? Rinse the chasen and chawan with warm water immediately after use. Do not use soap on the chasen, gently wipe of matcha residue. Rest the chasen on its holder to dry so it keeps its shape. The chakoshi and chashaku simply need a quick rinse and dry, and the chakin can be hand-washed and air-dried.

4. Is this kit suitable for beginners? Absolutely. The kit was designed so that anyone can prepare an authentic bowl of matcha at home, even with no prior experience. Paired with our matcha, it's everything you need for your first bowl, and your thousandth.
